Video short animation "The Qallupilluit" by Taryn Johnson

Watch "The Qallupilluit" 2:10 minute "Based on a story I read as a child called 'A Promise Is A Promise' by Robert Munsch and Michael Kusugak, which in turn is based on an Inuit legend about the 'Qallupilluit' who live under the sea ice and snatch children who are not with their parents. The animations were recorded frame-by-frame on an old Oxberry animation stand using 16mm black and white film. The puppets were cut out of black cardboard and frosted paper, and were back lit using a lightbox. The film was then digitized and brought into After Effects where I added the color." - filmmaker Taryn Johnson
